11.11.2008 | Universal Children's rights Day - 20 November 2008
Enfants du Monde presents its « Pieces of rope » at the Filmar festival at the Grütli in Geneva.
The Enfants du Monde association, concerned with the education of children throughout the world, wishes to invite the public to discover what school represents for hundreds of children, at the occasion of International Children's Day on November 20th.
Associated with the 10 year anniversary of the Filmar festival which takes places from November 7th to November 23rd (www.filmar.ch), Enfants du Monde will present its “Pieces of rope” in the Calame hall on the ground floor of the Grütli theatre at 16 Général-Dufour in Geneva.
Beginning last January, hundreds of children from Guatemala, El Salvador, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Switzerland, have written on a four-leaf clover-shaped name tag (see image above) their answer to the question: “What is a good school in your opinion?" They then tied them to a piece of rope that they themselves made.
From 2 pm, school children will take part in activities based on children's rights, using the teaching aids (www.globaleducation.ch) from the Foundation for Education and Development “Rich? Poor? What does it mean?”
In the evening, a local cultural group will propose artistic events from the world over. Carlo Santarelli, Secretary General of Enfants du Monde will make an appearance at 8:30 pm before the airing of two Nicaraguan movies on girls’ rights at the Fonction cinema.
You’re all welcome!
